Attention! Because beautiful aurora borealis have been seen in Nuevo León and the news is 100% real. This phenomenon is more common in regions near the poles, so it was a wonder to be able to record it.
This natural spectacle is uncommon in Nuevo León, since according to experts this happens every 11 years and it is not usual in the region. However, an aurora borealis was captured in the night sky of the municipality of Iturbide.
The news was shared by the municipality’s social networks and by the Astronomical Observatory of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, with incredible photographs showing how the sky was tinged in red, pink and black tones.
Why could aurora borealis be seen in Nuevo León?
This natural phenomenon was possible to observe due to a G4 geomagnetic storm that impacted the earth since Thursday evening and will continue on Friday, October 11.
Why do they happen? Because the Sun sends energy and small particles constantly in the direction of the Earth. However, the Earth is shielded by its magnetic field and causes those particles to travel toward the Earth’s poles. The deflection causes the particles and energy to interact with the gases in the atmosphere and the reaction is what produces the incredible colors in the sky.
According to information from NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, the northern lights could come into view today, Friday night, October 11, through long exposure photography.
Will the lucky states be able to see this incredible natural phenomenon? Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Zacatecas, Sinaloa and of course, Nuevo Leon. So now you know! Take out your camera and look for a clear sky with little light pollution.
