The most magical season of the year has arrived! And these little insects are already lighting up the forests of Nuevo León. We tell you everything you should know about the firefly season in Chipinque, since it is one of the favorite places to see them.
Every year, between the months of June and July, the Mexican forests are filled with lights at nightfall. The phenomenon, known as firefly sighting, occurs during their mating season. It is the males who light up their abdomens to attract mates, creating a unique landscape that looks like something out of a fairy tale.
Did you know that this phenomenon occurs very close to the city? At Chipinque Ecological Park, located in San Pedro Garza Garcia, a natural privilege available to all residents of Monterrey!
However, there are fewer and fewer places in Mexico where you can enjoy this experience, which makes its conservation even more valuable.
How to enjoy firefly season with respect and safety

To enjoy this magical experience without endangering the fireflies or the natural environment, take into account these essential recommendations:
- Do not use intense lamps or cell phone flash.
- Do not invade their space or touch them.
- Maintain silence during the tour.
- Do not apply repellents or chemical products in the area.
- Avoid leaving garbage or altering the natural environment.
On the other hand, we do not recommend going in search of fireflies on your own, since the sighting occurs in complete darkness and it is an area inhabited by bears, cougars and other wild animals, which can make this experience somewhat dangerous.
To enjoy the firefly season in Chipinque or any other place, the ideal is to go on authorized guided tours, which guarantee the safety of visitors and the preservation of the ecosystem.
