If you’ve recently seen two very bright points close together in the sky, it’s no coincidence. These are Venus and Jupiter, two of the most visible planets in the solar system that will be the stars of an impressive planetary conjunction throughout June.
To enjoy this astronomical phenomenon, the Nuevo León Astronomical Society will organize special observation sessions at one of the highest and most scenic spots in Monterrey: the Mirador del Obispado.
For three consecutive nights, you’ll be able to observe both planets through telescopes, learn about the event, and even take photos of the moment.
What is the Great Planetary Conjunction?
Although the planets are actually millions of kilometers apart, from Earth it will appear as though Venus and Jupiter are extremely close to each other in the night sky.
This phenomenon occurs due to the position and orbital motion of both planets, creating a visual spectacle that usually draws a lot of attention because of the intense brightness of both celestial bodies.
The reason the observation will take place at the Mirador del Obispado is because the planets will be very low on the horizon at sunset, so the location will offer the best view to enjoy the conjunction.
Telescopes and astronomical explanations will be available
The experience includes an astronomical explanation by specialists, observation through telescopes, and assistance in capturing photographs of the event.
The plan is perfect both for those who love astronomy and for those who simply want to experience something different in Monterrey this June.
