If you’re in Monterrey and you like different plans, this will interest you. In case you didn’t know, the discovery of Xenovenator espinosai, a new species of carnivorous dinosaur, has just been announced, and it is now on display at the Desert Museum (MUDE).
This little guy lived 74 million years ago, and the best part is that you can see it in person for less than $300 pesos and only 1 hour and 15 minutes from the city.
The discovery was presented by the MUDE in Saltillo, Coahuila. The fossil was found in the Cerro del Pueblo Formation, an area famous for the large number of dinosaur remains that have been found there and which has been key to understanding the prehistoric history of northern Mexico.
A small but very intelligent carnivorous dinosaur
Xenovenator espinosai belongs to the troodontid family, carnivorous dinosaurs known for their high intelligence.
Although not enormous, it measured just over 3 meters long and weighed between 160 and 170 kilograms, placing it among the largest of its group.
It had sharp, serrated teeth, large forward-facing eyes, and highly developed hearing, allowing it to hunt easily both day and night.
In addition, its brain was large in proportion to its body, suggesting complex behaviors for a predator of its size.
A cheap and perfect plan to get away from Monterrey
