Theater will once again take the stage in Monterrey with one of the most anticipated cultural events of the year. From July 21 to 26, the 36th edition of the Nuevo León State Theater Festivalwill take place, an event organized by CONARTE that will feature 12 productions by local theater companies at various venues throughout the city.
For six days, audiences will be able to enjoy stories that explore themes such as memory, identity, family, work, and social change through theatrical productions featuring different styles, formats, and perspectives.
A free opening night and a lineup for all audiences
The opening performance will be “Autobiografía del algodón” (Autobiography of Cotton), a theatrical adaptation of Cristina Rivera Garza’s novel by the Gorguz Teatro Company. The performance will take place on July 21 at 8:30 p.m. in the Gran Sala of the Teatro de la Ciudad, and admission is free while seats last.
The rest of the program includes productions such as *Happyland*, *From the Ground to the Alphabet*, *To Die, To Live, To Be Born*, *Chekhov’s Gun*, *Six Characters in Search of an Author*, *Hatun Mama*, *The Brothers Karamazov*, *Spiralmania*, *Chilaquiles of Bulls and Flowers*, *Lullabies for Benjamin*, and *I’ll Take the Blame*.
Performances will take place in the Gran Sala and the Sala Experimental at the Teatro de la Ciudad, the Teatro del Centro de las Artes within Fundidora Park, and the Aula Magna at the Colegio Civil University Cultural Center.
How much do tickets cost?
After the opening performance, general admission will cost 150 pesos, while children under 12, students, teachers, and INAPAM members with valid ID will pay 100 pesos.
Tickets will be available online and can also be purchased at the box office of each venue one hour before the start of performances, subject to availability. Some performances will take place in venues with limited seating, so it is recommended to arrive early.
