The cold in Monterrey will not let up. State authorities issued a warning for low temperatures in Monterrey, as Tuesday is expected to be the coldest day of the year so far. We tell you everything about the weather in Monterrey!
According to Nuevo León Civil Protection, Arctic air from southern Texas began to impact the state over the weekend and will continue over the next few days.
The director of the corporation, Erik Cavazos, explained that minimum temperatures of between -2 and -4 °C are expected, while in high altitude areas, early morning temperatures could reach close to 0 degrees.
Maximum temperatures will range between 10 and 12 °C, with morning fog, high humidity, and possible frost in different parts of the metropolitan area.
Weather forecast for Monterrey for the long weekend
If you felt that the cold was already getting serious in the city, don’t relax just yet. State authorities have issued a warning about low temperatures in Monterrey, and everything indicates that Tuesday will be the coldest day of the year so far.
After Tuesday, the weather will gradually improve, although it will still be cool and variable:
- Wednesday 28 – Some improvement is expected with highs around 18 °C and lows higher than the coldest days.
- Thursday, 29th – Temperatures will rise a little more, with highs around 20 °C and warmer nights.
- Friday, December 30 – There could be light rain, with highs of ~64°F and lows of ~55°F.
- Saturday, January 31 – Moderate rain and lower temperatures during the day, with highs of ~64°F.
- Sunday, February 1 – Very cloudy skies, highs of ~54°F and lows of ~43°F.
This pattern suggests that, although the impact of the Arctic air is diminishing, the bridge could still feel cold and damp, especially due to the presence of cloud cover and light rain on some days.
Precautions for cold weather
One of the main risks with this drop in temperature is on the roads, where ice could form, especially on stretches such as Monterrey–Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey–Saltillo.
It is recommended to drive with caution, at low speeds, and avoid throwing hot water on the windshield.
At home, it is important to use heaters safely to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning and to maintain good ventilation. Also, protect pipes and water meters, and keep your pets safe from the persistent cold.
