Do you choose wine based on how the name sounds, or not ? Do you tell white wine from red just by the color? Don’t worry, it’s happened to all of us. But if you’re itching to become the kind of person who can tell a Chenin Blanc from a Chardonnay just by the smell, in addition to wine bars, there are also plenty of places in Monterrey where you can go for tastings and wine tours. And here are our favorites so that, even if you don’t remember the names by the end, at least you’ll know what they taste like.
La Castellana Monterrey

A wine paradise where you can find all kinds of varieties and appellations from around the world. Their website is very active, and you can easily shop online, but we recommend visiting their different locations: Calzada Del Valle, Fuentes del Valle, San Agustín, and Cumbres. Especially the last three, because that’s where they host monthly tastings (for wine, tequila, and spirits), all of which include food pairings.

What if we took all the seriousness out of a wine tasting? The result would be An Idiot’s Guide to Wine, an immersive experience where the audience takes part in a wine tasting led by a comedian. A stand-up show where you’ll not only taste six different varieties of wine but also learn about them while you laugh. Humor and wine—is there anything better?
Wine

Without a doubt, one of the best places in Monterrey to both get started and delve deeper into the world of wine pairing. In addition to its store, Invino offers comprehensive wine experiences, ranging from courses to tastings led by sommeliers. The cost varies by experience, and they’re usually focused on specific wineries.
One of the things that makes this a must-visit spot? Its blind tastings, where you can put your instincts (and your palate) to the test without any clues from names or labels. Reservations can be made by phone or through their website.
Blend wine bar & wine shop

It would be impossible not to mention a place that has its own house label: “Blend. “ In addition to being a shop with a vast selection of wines— both in terms of varieties and regions—Blend wine bar is also known for offering all kinds of experiences. From pairings with local cuisine like empanadas or Mexican snacks, to guided themed tastings with music curated for the occasion.
Maravillas Winery
If you’re in the mood for a getaway that includes a tour of vineyards, a wine tasting, and is just a short drive from Monterrey, Vinícola Maravillas is the perfect choice. Located in Nuevo León and boasting an unbeatable (and very romantic) atmosphere, this oasis in the middle of the desert began as a family project that has been lovingly nurtured into the vineyard it is today.
They focus mainly on varieties such as Merlot and Colombard or Cabernet, among many others. If you’re looking to fall in love with wine in its natural habitat, this is undoubtedly the perfect plan for you.
