As of January 2026, every active line will have to be linked to a real person by means of their full name and an official ID. The objective of this measure is to reduce extortion, fraud and crimes committed from anonymous numbers.
This process will apply to Mexicans, foreign residents and tourists using a Mexican SIM. No exceptions.
How to register your phone line this 2026?
It sounds difficult, but it will be easier than you think. You will be able to complete this process in two ways:
- In person at any of your phone company’s Customer Service Center.
- Online through an official link or app that your operator will send you directly.
During the process, you must have an official ID and take a selfie or short video, in order to validate that the person registering the line really exists.
You have to take into account that this process will be simple, but thorough, so the system will give you three attempts; if you fail, you will have to conclude the registration in person.
What happens if you do not register your line?
If you do not complete the 2026 phone line registration, your service will be automatically suspended as of June 30, 2026.
This means you will not be able to make or receive calls, use mobile data or access services such as WhatsApp. Even if you don’t have a signal, your carrier may continue to generate charges and the only call you will have available will be to 911.

Do you have a work phone? This registration also includes business lines, which must be associated with the company’s RFC.
If you have dependents, such as children or senior citizens, who have additional phone lines, you can register them under your name, as long as you do not exceed 10 additional lines per person.
Don’t forget! Registration begins in January 2026 and you will have a registration deadline of June 29, 2026. After June 30, 2026, your line will be suspended if it was not registered on time.
