The Day of the Dead is also celebrated in the streets of Santiago! This October 31, Nuevo León’s “Magical Town” will host the second edition of the Catrinas Procession: The Path of Souls, a free parade that will bring together 50 catrinas to commemorate one of Mexico’s most iconic traditions.
The procession will begin at 5:15 p.m. at the Santiago Auditorium and will once again take the catrinas through the town’s streets. It will be an opportunity to enjoy a celebration that combines costumes, characterizations, and the symbolism of the Day of the Dead.
What will the Catrinas Procession in Santiago be like?
Under the name “El Camino de las Almas,” this second edition aims to keep alive the connection between tradition, memory, and Mexican culture.
According to the information released, 50 catrinas will participate in the procession, turning the streets of Santiago into the setting for this celebration.
The catrinas are one of the most recognizable figures of the Day of the Dead. Their dresses, hats, and characteristic skull-inspired makeup represent a tradition that has evolved to become part of the popular celebrations in various Mexican cities.
Although the full route for this year’s event has not yet been confirmed, the starting point will be the Santiago Auditorium.
A tradition returning to the Magical Town of Santiago
This will be the second edition of the procession, which returns following the activities held during the Day of the Dead in 2025.
On that occasion, the municipality announced a procession featuring more than 50 catrinas from the Santiago Auditorium to Plaza Ocampo, as part of a program that also included altars and cultural activities.
In 2026, El Camino de las Almas returns on Saturday, October 31, with free admission and a program that highlights the catrinas and their significance within Mexican traditions.
Additionally, its location in Santiago allows visitors to enjoy a Day of the Dead celebration outside the Monterrey metropolitan area, in one of Nuevo León’s “Magical Towns.”
