On August 27, you’ll be able to have a picnic under the stars, listen to acoustic music, and learn about astronomy in the middle of the forest. “Picnic in the Chipinque Forest” will host an “Astronomy Night” event on the Chipinque Nature Reserve Plateau.
The event will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and is designed to let you enjoy the natural surroundings while observing the sky. The program includes a special talk about the eclipse and how to observe it, as well as an opportunity to engage in astronomical observation using your own equipment.
So, if you have a telescope at home, this might be a great opportunity to take it out and bring it to Chipinque.
What will be happening at “Picnic in the Chipinque Forest”?
Chipinque’s Astronomy Night won’t just be about looking up at the sky. There will also be live acoustic music and a family-friendly area where you can spread out your blanket, set up your chairs, and have your own picnic.
You may bring food and non-alcoholic beverages. To be more comfortable during the event, we recommend bringing warm clothing, a flashlight, a blanket, and a folding chair—as well as your telescope if you’d like to participate in the observation with your own equipment.
The special ticket costs 180 MXN per person and includes individual access during special hours, a talk about the eclipse, stargazing with your own equipment, live acoustic music, a picnic area, and parking.
What will happen to the Moon during Astronomy Night?
One of the central themes of the event will be the lunar eclipse of August 2026. During Astronomy Night, there will be a talk to learn more about this phenomenon, how it occurs, and how it can be observed.
The event will take place on the night of August 27. However, as the organizers note, stargazing will depend on sky conditions.
Since this is an activity in a natural setting, participants are also asked to avoid bright lights and lasers that could interfere with the experience. Also, remember not to leave trash behind, not to feed the wildlife, and to avoid making noise outside of the program.
